With the winter comes a few changes at Leamington Athletics. Track Tots no longer train, the Edmondscote Track car park is smaller, and we no longer do the jumps and throws, as it is just too cold to stand around.
We take this opportunity to get athletes fit, stronger, and faster. We have new running schedules and lots of conditioning workouts. It's time to get stronger!
Track Parking

The inclement weather means the car park at the track gets a lot muddier, and cars can get stuck. Therefore, we close it off, which reduces the number of available spaces.
We kindly ask that you park away from the track and take a short walk instead. Why not try Victoria Park?
Thank you for your cooperation!

While many athletes bring water to the track, this is not ideal.

We hope to share a quick and simple technique with athletes on how to make a sports drink. This will help fuel them better for their sessions. With the right drink, they can train for longer and at a higher intensity to get fitter!
Just bring your bottle!
Team LAA - Training Trip
LAA is offering to take 10 athletes in a minibus to Loughborough University indoor training track.
This facility is an excellent way to train in the winter, in daylight, and out of the rain and cold. It is open to 13+ year olds only.
Please get in touch if you would like to reserve a place. Coaches Brian and Rachel will deliver sessions on long jump, sprints, hurdles, and block starts.

Winter Training Tips
As the temperatures drop, it’s essential to adapt training routines. Here are some tips to keep athletes motivated and engaged during winter:
1. Dress Appropriately
Wearing the right gear is crucial. Layering helps maintain body heat. Ensure athletes wear moisture-wicking fabrics to stay dry and comfortable.
2. Focus on Technique
Winter is a great time to refine skills. Coaches can focus on technique and form. This ensures athletes improve even when outdoor conditions are less than ideal.
3. Incorporate Indoor Workouts
Consider adding indoor training sessions. This can include strength training, flexibility exercises, and drills that can be done in a gym or home setting.
4. Set Goals
Encourage athletes to set personal goals for the winter season. This can help maintain motivation and provide a sense of accomplishment.
5. Stay Hydrated
Even in colder weather, hydration is vital. Remind athletes to drink water regularly, especially during and after workouts.
6. Enjoy the Process
Finally, remind athletes to have fun. Winter training can be challenging, but it’s also an opportunity to bond with teammates and enjoy the sport.
By implementing these strategies, athletes can stay engaged and continue to develop their skills throughout the winter months.
Let’s make this winter a productive season for all!
