Agony & Ecstasy - XC, Nov '21

Many parents will recall the agony and ecstasy of school cross country but we also recall these events with immense pride for the challenge of overcoming adverse conditions; mud, rain and even snow, but we know it made us tougher.

LAA has had a tremendous start to the season with more attending than ever before. Post race you can chatter with excitement in our club gazebo and that’s where you’ll find the cake!

The first event in October was at Newbold Revel, Rugby. A flat course, run through woods and around a lake.

November was a different challenge entirely, with a challenging and hilly course in Warley Woods, Smethick.

Warley resulted in a solid run from Sam Robbins and his faithful training partner Henry Cohen, the latter having played rugby the day before! Zara Skerret ran her heart out as our only U15 girl. Elle Weir was terrifically successful with a 9th place finish in the U11girls field of 109 runners.

The course was so challenging that a couple of athletes struggled to finish and it was their first time back – we are proud of them for coming to represent LAA and hope they will return to try to complete the next race.

As a club we are getting better and better at XC but we do need more runners as they count towards club points at each event. Every runner means team points!
